Honouring the contribution of Merida Delcy in education |05 October 2021
Merida Delcy decided to leave the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of her native island, Praslin, to experience the hustle and bustle of the main island Mah茅.
All she wanted was to pursue her career as a teacher.
She had the essence of what it entailed as she was a supply teacher for two years teaching at Baie St Anne primary school from January 1973 to December 1974. Mrs Delcy joined the Teacher Training College (TTC) in 1975.
Upon completion of her three-year training, she was posted at the Good Shepherd primary school as a Lower Primary teacher.
During her 48 years employed with the Ministry of Education, Mrs Delcy has taught, led and headed different educational institutions.

Proceeded on overseas training at Reading University in the UK, for a Master of Arts (MA) in Leadership and Innovation. Training was for 1 year. |

Promoted to Director鈥檚 post responsible for the Non formal, Early Childhood and Primary Schools Section. |

January 2007 |
Promoted to Director General for Schools |
|
January 2011 |
Promoted to Principal Secretary for Education. With restructuration, was transferred to the post of Principal Secretary for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary in 2015. |

Mrs Delcy has during her long career served on different committees. She was a member of the Language Policy Review Committee in March 1994. She has been both a member and the chairperson of the Teachers Day committee since 1996. She sat on the Means Testing Board; now Social Welfare Agency from 2004 to 2007.
As a recipient of The MA cohort, Mrs Delcy has tutored both groups of students on the Masters Degree Course. The Lincoln University鈥檚 MBA students from 2004 to 2007 and the Warwick University鈥檚 MA students from 2008 to 2010.
The Ministry of Education would like to express its gratitude to Mrs Delcy for her long years of dedication, hard work and commitment to the education system.
