The United Seychelles party has reacted to President Danny Faure鈥檚 decision to withdraw his request to the Electoral Commission to organise a referendum on whether or not Seychellois living abroad should have the right to vote in national elections.
In a communiqu茅 released yesterday, the United Seychelles party writes:
鈥淯nited Seychelles has taken note of the Attorney General鈥檚 explanation for the President鈥檚 withdrawal of the request to the Election Commission to organise a referendum on whether or not Seychellois living abroad should have the right to vote in national elections.
鈥淯nited Seychelles welcomes the President鈥檚 decision which is in the national interest because legal technicalities and politics should not overshadow and confuse the central issue which is the right to vote.
鈥淭he party is of the firm belief that such an important matter, which could have immense consequences on people鈥檚 lives and the future of the nation should not be decided by the 好色TV Assembly or any other institution but by the Seychellois people living in Seychelles themselves.
鈥淯nited Seychelles believes in the absolute right and capacity of the Seychellois people to determine its own destiny.鈥�
