President Faure with President Putin

President Faure speaks on building Blue Economy partnerships

President Danny Faure attended the first day of the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi yesterday morning where he made a statement.

Speaking on the importance of Russia-Africa relations, President Faure said, 鈥淭he future Russia-Africa relationship should be defined by our joint cooperation to achieve the goals of both Agenda 2063 and the Global Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.鈥

Addressing President Vladimir Putin, co-chair President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, and other African heads of State and Government, President Faure continued, 鈥淭he next frontier for Africa鈥檚 development is the Blue Economy. We count on the Russian Federation to build new partnerships as we harness the opportunities of the Blue Economy.听

鈥淎s we concentrate our efforts in building our partnership for the benefit of our people, we must be mindful that climate change remains the number one global threat to our existence.鈥澨

Key areas of cooperation between Russia and African countries were also addressed at the summit. On the subject of trade, President Faure emphasised on the need for 鈥渨in-win trade relations鈥 between Russia and Africa to tackle the various obstacles to economic development on the continent.听

Seychelles continues to be a leading voice in the urgent need for climate action and sustainable development across the continent.

President Faure said today, 鈥渨e count on the Russian Federation to accompany us in these defining moments to truly combat climate change. Seychelles will continue to raise its voice in all fora for climate action, ocean protection and the blue economy.鈥澨

Yesterday, President Faure also took part in a panel discussion around 鈥業nvesting in Africa鈥.听

The first-ever Russia-Africa Summit was opened by President Vladimir Putin.

The two-day event听will see more than 3,000 delegates听from across Russia and Africa听to discuss an array of topics including nuclear energy and business investment.听

In the panel discussion facilitated by economist Charles Robertson, President Faure shared how Seychelles is the richest country in Africa because of its consistent human development-centred policies, and political stability. 鈥淲hat is the oxygen for development? It is peace and stability,鈥 said the President.

He encouraged international investors to explore the opportunities available in the Blue Economy, and how it is the next frontier of development for the continent.听

In the evening, President Faure attended a gala dinner hosted by President Putin, featuring Russian cultural performances.听
