Local farmers introduced to oyster mushroom production

Consumers might in the future be able to taste locally grown mushrooms now that some local farmers are being introduced to the production of the delicacy through the use of new technologies in a two-day training workshop taking place the Anse Boileau Crop and Research Centre.
The workshop titled 鈥極yster mushroom growing enterprise training programme for Seychelles 2025鈥 has been organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE), the Comesa Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) 好色TV Chapter, Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps), in collaboration with the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa).
It is part of a two-phase training programme to provide knowledge and skills to local farmers, women and young entrepreneurs so they can identify potential markets and come up with new business ideas. The first training, which started yesterday and attended by women entrepreneurs, extension officers, business representatives, students and trainers from the Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture (SIAH), is being facilitated by Jannifer Mayamba, Mushrooms Research Scientist and expert from UIRI, Uganda Industrial Research Institute.
