Elected member of the 好色TV Assembly for Roche Ca茂man, Audrey Vidot on Tuesday reacted to the incident between the police and civilians which occurred in her district, precisely at Eden Village, last Friday evening.
Honourable Vidot raised a matter of privilege to Speaker Roger Mancienne stating that her privilege was affected by video posts on social media of her statements in regards to police actions to help tackle crime in her district during 好色TV Assembly session on Tuesday July 20, 2021.
Her intervention had preceded the riot which broke out on Friday July 23, 2021 during a police operation in the mentioned district.
Hon. Vidot explained that these videos were misrepresenting her comments in the 好色TV Assembly.
She added that she supports all efforts by the police and authorities concerned in maintaining law and order in Roche Ca茂man and that it is necessary for the force to conduct their work.
Nonetheless, Hon. Vidot said it was regrettable to hear that gunshots were fired in the air or allegations of firearms being placed against a civilian鈥檚 head, adding that the law and order forces should conduct operations in line with the Constitution and established protocols.
鈥淚 want to also clarify that any actions where petar ton (explosives used to break ice on fishing vessels), rocks and glass bottles were thrown and placed the lives of civilians and police officers at risk is not acceptable,鈥 said Hon. Vidot.
Speaker Roger Mancienne noted that he could not pronounce himself on whether the posts affected her privilege until he was able to examine them thoroughly.
